Improving Communication Between Parents and Children as a Strategy to Reduce Violence Against Children

In April 2025, our founder, Resty Kansiime Agaba, had the honor of joining one of her inspiring podcast guests, Gloriana Bunnya, founder of Together Against CSV Uganda, for the “You Have a Right to Say No” campaign at Katiti Primary School in Mutundwe, Uganda.

5/4/24, 1:00 pm

This powerful collaboration brought together phenomenal women united by one mission — to create safer spaces for children through open dialogue and community empowerment.

Resty facilitated a focus group discussion with parents and guardians, listening to their lived experiences and heartfelt concerns. The conversations echoed many of the stories shared on the SHECentre Podcast — raw, real, and deeply moving.

Key insights from the session included:
• The need to equip parents with tools and knowledge to support their children, especially in vulnerable communities 📚
• The painful effects of poverty — from domestic violence to children exposed to adult content in overcrowded homes ⚠
• The cry for greater community support for single mothers ❤
• The power of faith in nurturing children spiritually ✝
• The urgency of open, honest conversations between parents and children to prevent sexual violence 🗣
• And the often-overlooked need to protect and guide the boy child 🙍‍♂

“This was more than a conversation — it was a call to action.”

Being part of this initiative reignited our founder’s passion to drive change through SHECentre — building spaces where women’s voices matter, families heal, and communities rise together.

💜 10% of all SHECentre profits go directly into outreach projects like this one, allowing us to collaborate, connect, and create lasting impact across East Africa and beyond.
